Bridge Math

Discuss recoil of a .22 vs a shotgun...

What is the difference?  What makes them different?

Show class formula for finding recoil - 8 variables.

Ask for the slope, etc.  Why can't we tell?  How did they get all those variables.

Remember the slopw intercept formula.  It's much simpler.  Lets see if we can figure out how to get the formula of a line from a table (experimental date.)

Work on the attached document on the board; check.

Worked problems

Geometry

5.1 Perimeter and Area  p.292

Why do we need to know perimeter and area?  Geometry means "earth measure"...  so what would early civilizations need to know about the earth?

Focus on food...  they had to know how much feed was raised on each field and how much food each person needed.  This need to feed the populace was one of the top three things they needed to know.

You need to know the area of a field to determine food production and the distance around it to fence out the critters.

Illustrate relationship between an equations solution, it's "zeros," and the x-intercepts of a graph.

Note the max number of "zeros" or solutions of an equation matches the highest exponent...
